Falling for Canada all over again

On returning to the modern world after spending a week in Cuba we were eager to explore Toronto. Although we were spending two nights we only had one full day to see all the sites Toronto has to offer.

We had an early start, making the most of our full day which started us off in the Kensington Market area which was where our hostel was situated. It was a trendy little place with many little independent bars, cafés and shops.

As we walked down towards the waterfront we went through Chinatown where we seen some really cool street art.

We then made it to Rodgers Arena, home of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team where we were able to sneak a look in the stadium before checking out the CN Tower.

Our next destination took us along the waterfront and down towards the Distillery Distract. This area was closed to traffic allowing us to walk casually around the old cobbled stone streets and browse through the boutique shops.

Although exhausted from the amount of walking we had already done we made our way towards downtown and through a shopping centre that felt as though we were walking for kilometres and many street blocks underground. On returning to the hostel I think we had walked around 15 km for the day. It was a great way to see this beautiful city which like many others we have been to wished we could stay longer. Toronto was clean, safe and an exciting city.

After dinner and a rest at the hostel we headed down to Little Italy for some beers and the watched the baseball!

The following morning it was time already to leave Toronto and head to Niagara Falls for the afternoon before leaving Canada, not knowing when we will be back.

When arriving at Niagara Falls we went and dropped our bags at a hostel rather than carry them around with us for the few hours we were going to spend there. We then jumped on a bus and headed for flat rock, seeing glimpses of the falls along the way.

We got off the bus and were instantly sprayed by the mist from the falls, before walking a little to see the horseshoe falls. We continued to walk along the shore, 57 metres above the river and in awe of the power and amount of water being thrown over on both the Canadian and American falls. It was also great to watch the tour boats taking people right next to the falls at the water level.

We had a little look through the town before checking out the whirlpool further downstream and finally getting our bags and walking across Rainbow bridge, out of Canada and into the United States for the first time on this trip.

We had a look at the falls from the American side before getting some dinner and waiting for our night bus for a week in NYC.

We both agreed that Niagara Falls was better than we expected, but Iguaza Falls in Argentina/Brazil would still be our favourite out of the two.

Chao for now,

N & S xx
